How long does it take plaquenil to work for lupus

It is a disabling and painful condition which can lead to substantial loss of mobility due to pain and joint destruction. I've been off it a few days and thankfully my plumbing is back to normal it seems and the huge acne has stopped/gone. The disease is also systemic in that it often also affects many extra-articular tissues throughout the body including the skin, blood vessels, heart, lungs, and... Since I'm a woman I managed to bypass the plumbing problems while on the prednisone (I'm on 30 mg), but you're right, the acne is BAD!! Considering the state my joints are in though, I suppose that's the least of my problems.

Hydroxychloroquine oral tablet is used for short-term treatment of malaria, but it may be used for long-term treatment of lupus or rheumatoid arthritis. Hydroxychloroquine comes with risks if you. The usual starting dose of Plaquenil is 200 mg twice a day or 400 mg once a day, administered orally, in people weighing 80 kg or more. The usual dosage works for most people who take Plaquenil, but it is possible to increase or decrease the dose based on individual needs. It's important to watch for possible side effects and toxicity. Aug 14, 2017 Plaquenil is also used for long-term treatment of autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis RA and systemic lupus erythmatosis. According to the Mayo Clinic, it can take up to six months' constant use before an effect is seen in RA 1.

My doctor was only able to find it after I requested a MRI of my hands. Of course neither has the prednisone, sulfasalazine, or methotrexate. Hi guys, I was diagnosed with RA in April 08 and I'm 29 years old. I've been on plaquenil for over 4 months and it hasn't done squat for me.

  6. Plaquenil takes quite a long time to get to its peak effectiveness depending on what you read, anywhere from 3 months to a year. Unless you are having significant side effects, try to give it at.

Lupus-- also called systemic lupus erythematosus, or SLE -- might not have a cure, but it's a highly treatable condition. Lupus medications can help lower long-term risks and keep symptoms under. How long did it take for Plaquenil to work? I'm just curious how long it took everyone to start to notice a different. My dr said it would take 6-12 weeks to start to notice anything but I only started Plaquenil 3 weeks ago and I swear I can already notice a difference. Plaquenil is NOT known to start working that fast. It takes anywhere from 4-6 months before the affects of Plaquenil are seen/felt. This is the case with everyone I know that takes it.
