    Plaquenil lupus anticoagulant

When you have this condition, your body's immune system makes abnormal proteins that attack the blood cells and lining of the blood vessels. The presence of these antibodies can cause problems with blood flow and lead to dangerous clots in blood vessels throughout the body. Both certain gene changes and other factors (such as an infection) may cause the problem to develop.

Lupus Anticoagulant Syndrome and Pregnancy. An expectant mother yet with lupus anticoagulant syndrome can still have successful pregnancies. If the condition is properly managed, these women are expected to bear their infants to term. Management for this group always involves the use of heparin and low dose aspirin. Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine has a good safety record in lupus pregnancy, and is usually continued if needed to control maternal lupus. Management and Monitoring Lupus pregnancy should be timed to coincide with a period of good disease control if at all possible. These medications may also prevent lupus from spreading to certain organs, such as the kidney and central nervous system your brain and spinal cord and may help to reduce flares by as much as 50%. Plaquenil and other anti-malarials are the key to controlling lupus long term, and some lupus patients may be on Plaquenil for the rest of their lives.

The condition is more common women than in men, It is often found in women who have a history of repeated miscarriages. It is often found in people with other autoimmune diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

This is a special blood test to find out if your body is making certain antibodies or proteins that cause you to have a blood-clotting disorder. Michelle Petri, MD, found that in her cohort of 2,000 SLE patients at Johns Hopkins, those with phospholipid/lupus anticoagulants on long-term Plaquenil had a lower risk of thrombosis than those who never took the drug. 16 Studies in the early 1970s explored the antithrombotic effects of Plaquenil in patients undergoing hip arthroplasty. 17. Generally, Plaquenil® can be continued to help prevent a lupus flare. It is rare that Plaquenil causes fetal problems, and the risk of a flare outweighs the fetal risk. Prednisone also should be continued. If you are on mycophenolate mofetil or mycophenolic acid, talk to your doctor about switching to azathioprine.

PLAQUENIL - Rheumatoid General & Support Jan 11th She took Plaquenil the last 5 yrs she was alive, before that only asprin for the pain and swelling. I cannot imagine what she went through. I remember once she told me that she never was a day without pain. She never complained though - I don't know how she did it. She was so glad that I didn't get it.
