    How to wean off plaquenil

Hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) is an anti-malarial medication used for a variety of inflammatory diseases including systemic lupus erythematosus as well as rheumatoid arthritis and Sjogren's Syndrome. Hydroxychloroquine is contraindicated for Marshall Protocol Plaquenil lingers in the system at least 50 days and cannot be taken while on the MP. Blaney reports he starts his patients on Benicar while they are waiting for Plaquenil to clear their system and has seen no adverse events.

Yes, if the plaquenil controls your Lupus flares, it is best to not use the prednisone. I hope you can get off of it completely, or at least take a small maintenance dose. Take it very slow, tapering off, and if you have a reaction, severe fatigue, etc, talk to your doc, about tapering down even slower. Aug 26, 2016 Plaquenil damps down the reactiveness of the receptors that send out your “fighters”, which in us is overactive. Rather than strangling the life out of your immune system like steroid meds do, it attenuates the function to closer to normal. Over time it can slightly lower your white cell count. It took months to wean off of it and then I started taking the plaquenil. My legs, ankles and feet hurt for 2 months until the Plaqunil finally kicked in. One morning I work up, stepped out of bed and was shocked not to feel the pain.

I have been on the plaquenil 200 mgm for about 4 months now. He prefers to wait a couple months before starting minocycline.

    • Is it common practice to wean off plaquenil..
    • Prednisone and Plaquenil DailyStrength.
    • Can I stop my immunosuppressant abruptly or do I need to wean..

Have been on methotrexate 20mg 8/@2.5mg for about a year and 1/2. Recently moved and have a new Rheumatoligist who did his own blood test and x-rays, according to him he cannot find the blood factor or damage to any joints to prove that I have RA. I would like to know can I stop taking methotrexate or do I have to ween off of it slowly? Or should I even be thinking of stopping the meds? I. Hydroxychloroquine comes as a tablet to take by mouth. For prevention of malaria in adults, two tablets are usually taken once a week on exactly the same day of each week. The first dose is taken 1 to 2 weeks before traveling to an area where malaria is common, and then doses are continued for 8 weeks after exposure. EJ, I cannot contribute much, but just to say that I am currently taking Plaquenil at one end of the day and Minocycline at the other; and in my understanding of the many posts I’ve reviewed here – it is not unheard of to continue both and wean off the Plaquenil as the benefits from the AP take hold.
